I regularly do workouts where I run at a set pace. I'm not able to sense pace well enough, especially when I'm outside my comfort zone, which makes me dependent on current pace feedback during the workout. With the 310XT, I can pick the footpod as pace source and get a pace reading that is sufficiently accurate with a tolerance of maybe 5 s/km. That means, if I intend to run a stretch at, for example, 5:15 min/km, at any time I know whether I need to speed up, slow down, or just keep going.
Now the 920XT comes along. There - and I didn't fully realize the consequences until they hit me - I do not have the option to pick the footpod or the HRM-Run as pace source if GPS is turned on. I thought that with the "improved accuracy through GLONASS" that wouldn't be an issue because the 305 and 310XT already had pretty good GPS reception as they were. I was ecstatic about something even better.
And then the disappointment. The result of the GPS problems is that current pace and lap pace are unacceptably off. The current pace might show 2:10 min/km, which would put me near quite a few world records, then suddenly it changes to 7:10. A few steps later it is 4:30. That information is useless to me--and to anybody else, I would assume.
Lap pace is better but still probably 30 or 40 seconds off--still no cigar. Essentially, with my new watch I cannot use the tool that helped me most because the 920XT won't allow me to select any reliable pace source without forcing me to switch off GPS entirely.
I don't really care if the recorded track is off as long as the important information is there. But the GPS inaccuracies that manifest themselves in the garbled track also totally ruin a data field that I very much rely on". In pratica il foot pod non viene utilizzato quando è acceso il GPS e la misurazione del passo istantaneo è molto altalenante. Mi sa che inizierò a rimpiangere il mio bel fenix 2...
